Not sure what kind of thyroid problem you have, but I know that birth control pills can alter your levels when you get your T3/TSH checked. If you are on birth control pills and are taking thyroid hormones...your Dr. will have to do some tinkering with your doses to get your levels right. Conversely, when you stop taking birth control pills, your thyroid dose will have to be adjusted again. However, the thyroid hormones don't alter effectiveness of the birth control pills.

I was taking birth control pills, and I have a hypothyroid. When I started taking the synthroid to treat my thyroid it messed with my periods. I think it depends which pills you take, but I have been wondering the same thing... I guess the most important thing is to take them very regularly.

I have a thyroid problem (hypo) and i dont take birth control i have the coil, but you must ask your doc cause if you have a thyroid porb there are lots of stuff you cant take.

I've never taken birth control, but im sure that if YOU take them, they wont mess with MY thyroid.

I think you should ask your gynegologist that question. Its actually a simple blood test to see if your thyroid is working.
