where i live you can sit them out for the garbage man, usually before he comes some one picks it up to repair them or scrap them..call you garbage collector and ask them if they will take them. the only thing i cant stick out here is tires and refrigerators with their coolant

Best solution: If you live in a community with good recycling services, call the recycling office (or look for them on the web) and get their advice. They may have a drop off center for large items like this. There is a lot of metal in the dryer. Much better that it gets recycled then trashed.

If you live in an area with poor recycling, or want to avoid the hassle of transporting it to a drop off center or trying to sell it (not easy with an appliance that doesn't work), search for your local Junk B Gone or Junk Be Gone business. The one in Oregon is http://www.junkbegone.net/ They do charge a fee so it depends if you just want the problem solved and have more money than time to devote to this.

If you go to www.freecycle.org this is a very good site, it saves things from the landfill, and helps others. It's FREE to join, and of course anything you put on there is offered for free too.

You just post it, and someone will email you back and you can set up a time for them to come pick it up for free and you don't have to be the one that moves it. Unless you are healthy and can do it. Which a dryer is very light and easy to move.

But anyway, you can have the old one put on your carport and someone will want it for parts, or to repair. Or put it out with a sign on it for sale, and the price, reasonable, so someone will actually want to purchase it.

Here's what we did with our washer...first we put it out by the street and the trashmen didn't take it. So we put a sign on it that said "free". No one took it.

Then we put a sign on it that said, "$25" and it was gone in 2 hours!!!

You might also check with your local large recycling facility or your trash hauler to see if they have pickup for appliances.

Lots of second hand/recycled appliance shops around. If it is a model they particularly want for spare parts or whatever they will probably pick it up. Get oout those yellow pages.

Put the appliance on your front lawn with a 4 free sign on it, some one will pick it up.

I think BB will take it for you (for a fee of course), if not, won't your garage people just pick it up? Also, if it works, those community places usually will come and pick it up for free so they can give it to a less fortunate person. Look in the phone book.

Call the township for pick up. They usually have a pick up day for large items.
In my area, you put it out and the trashpickers are there before you turn your back!
