I would say the proof lies in the fact that they were forced to change their status from "sport" to "entertainment." While the wrestlers do take a tremendous amount of punishment, it is all staged and completely fake. If you think about it, even you put this question under television instead of sports.

Well, I went to the Regis and Kathy Lee Show in New Orleans with my daughter about 5 yrs. ago. Diamond Dallas Page was there....he said that they all go to a school and learn how to do all the stunts.
Think about it....and watch real careful.....if they hit and slapped and threw down these men like it looks....they would all be in terrible terrible shape.
I look at it as an art. They learn all the moves and run to the ropes instead of resisting....its like a dance. They never resist.
They never pull back or away from contact. They just go with it.
If someone is standing on the ropes getting ready to jump on me, don't you think I would MOVE??? Instead, they stand there.
I think wrestling used to be real a very long time ago. But not now.

i use to watch a lot of wrestling and i can honestly say that yes everything is planned out on who wins and what happens...but the fight in between everything...i think it's not fake. they just trained ways where you can still do damage but not seriously get really injured and die. there are tons of times when blood are splattered and mcfoley or whomever had to get stitches. but i wouldn't say it's competely fake, just more cautious with some stunts.

haven't you ever watched a match that one person goes to hit the other and stomps their foot down hard on the ring and completely misses hitting the other person but yet that person falls down or back into the ropes??
Watch the matches, that'll give ya proof. I will agree that they are not all fake...wrestlers deal with a bit of brutality but there are loads of things on there that are fake...

Although I love wrestling the thing that bothers me is when they cut themselves to stimulate the gash from a kick or blow from a chair. They hide razor blades in their wrist bands and when face down on the mat they cut a nick in their foreheads. That's just not safe or sanitary.

Well, Picture is worth a thousand words. Now I have a GIF picture as a movie clip. That should be worth 10000 words.
Make sure your browser let Animated pictures run. You should see the bottom guy smash his own head into the ring.
LOL!!!
