There was an eastern and western empire, not just one. The eastern fell first. That's all I know off the top of my head.

It depends on whether you want to know about the fall of Rome the city or the fall of Rome the empire. The western empire is generally regarded as ending in 476. That happened when the last Roman emperor was replaced with an Ostrogothic king. Rome itself had been captured before then, I believe. The eastern empire ended when Constantinople was captured by the Turks in 1453.
