3 reasons. Candy, costumes, parties, and scary stuff.

Halloween is my favorite holiday, and that's saying a lot. I love holidays. But Halloween is the best.

First of all, you get to dress up in costumes. You can live out your fantasies, or be funny or original. One of my favorite things about Halloween is seeing how everybody else gets dressed up. Sometimes I'm so amazed at the innovation. Plus you can see what's on people's minds.

Secondly, Halloween is all about spooky scary stuff. I don't know why, but I've always been into horror movies. I think it's important to delve into the darker side of life and face our fears. Halloween is a creative and harmless way to explore the things that really do scare us, and to face them.

Third, Halloween is a great opportunity for crafts, cooking and decorating. I love making jack-o-lanterns and then roasting the pumpkin seeds. It's a nice excuse to be creative and more than a little gaudy.

Lastly, Halloween is an excuse to party. You can eat tons of candy, drink, hang out with your friends, go dancing, do whatever -- even if it's on a weeknight. If Halloween is on a Sunday, you can go to Halloween parties on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. That's the best!

It's purely fun and no where near as much work as Christmas. You can pretty much celebrate however you want. The traditions aren't set in stone like they are for other more serious holidays.

the tradition dates back to ireland as a end of summer festival in which the dead were believed to revisit the earth.

but halloween rocks, for me, because of costume creativity.
