David Ruffin has always been on of my favorite old school entertainers. Do you think the Temptations should have been David Ruffin and the Temptations? David Ruffin had a powerful voice, he seems to be an Icon in death, but could never obtain that status when he was alive. Diane Ross had that billing with the Supremes, so why not David Ruffin?

The Temptations were a group and not just centered around David Ruffin.....several different singers took the lead on their songs although most of the big hits did have Ruffin as the lead. The Supremes on the other hand were always built around Ross and the other group members could have been mannequins for all the difference they made. And, something else to remember is that Barry Gordy who ran Motown Records was the one who made that decision. He was a virtual dictator who ran a hitmaking machine and gave the artist's little say in things.

The tempting temptations! I too loved "the voice" David Ruffin. When they orginated he was the only voice we heard. We began to equate that voice as easily recognize it, whenever a Tempations song was heard.( On the other hand Ms. Ross never let anyone else sing!) Back to the Temp's - the theme of thier music eventually changed and we began to hear the most beautiful voice of Eddie Kendricks. So, when they began to evolve - there was no need to re-name the group. But I agree there was one and only one DAVID!!

It has been a trend over the last several decades that when a group becomes highly popular, ultimately the lead singer wants top billing. I don't necessarily subscribe to this view, but I believe in giving credit where it's due. I don't believe that any fan of a particular group likes to see the lead singer leave that group and strike out on their own, but it is not up to us. I just hate it when the group suffers a loss of popularity when this happens. I think that everyone would be treated fairly if the "star" would just make a single from time to time instead of abandoning the group entirely.

David Ruffin was amazing. I don't think he ever got the recognition he deserved.

I beleive david had a good voice. And they were good together,He probibly couldn,t over come his drug addiction long enough to try it out on his own.then again maybe by being with the group it kept him some what in check. All in all the drugs got the best of him and robbed him of alot!As for Diania Ross and the Supremes they Were once called something like the "chandells"or something being one word, all old school music was good ,too bad we don,t have the mindset as we did back then.(such a better time in life)
