It is if you know what the item is worth. However, time and time again I have seen people bid more for and item, a lot more, than they could have purchased the same item from a fixed price vendor, sometimes the very same vendor that was selling it on Ebay.

Can be. Read the seller's rating - buy from sellers with a lot of sales and a rating in the high 90th percentile (positive!). Price the item elsewhere and make sure you're getting a good deal - and be sure to include the price of shipping. For anything really big, use eBay escrow (not an escrow company suggested by the seller).

It's safe if you follow those guidelines, but you don't get the deals that you used to. There's no benefit to small sellers who are just getting rid of a few things, as the charge is greater than the profit.

I have saved thousands of dollars buying from eBay. Rules to follow:

1. Feedback is key. Having solds lots of items with a high feedback percentage (97% or greater), means you are not likely to get ripped off.
2. Ask questions - if they answer your questions, they will be easier to contact if a problem arises.
3. Read carefully - don't assume anything. If it doesn't clearly state what is being sold, ask questions.
4. Documentation - keep records of the email, phone calls, etc.
5. PayPal has problems but it is the best way to pay. Setup a second checking account and move money to the account before paying for an item.

Ebay is a great way to buy and sell items. Just make sure that the person you are buying from has a great rating and plenty of positive feedback from other buyers!!! I would not really recommend buying from someone with a rating lower than 98%.. also make sure that they've had an active account for atleast a few months.. the longer the better.

it really depends , some of the items aren't worth it by the time u pay shipping, other items are well worth it and u can find things on there that are really unique that u may not have where u live
