I'm currently looking towards a qualification in fitness and personal training, and a degree in psychology with a focus on sports and fitness. I am anything but a fan of fast food... but it has it's place occasionally. People make their own choices about what to eat, McDonald's doesn't make these choices for them. And you can buy food that is just as fattening, or even more so, from the supermarket.
I like the lean beef burgers at McDonald's more than any of the others now. In fact, to be honest, I'll probably never eat any of the others again. But the McDonald's in the food court at the shopping centre I go to is a cheap and handy place for me to grab a cup of coffee... and on occasion I might also have an apple pie. It's not overly healthy (well... it isn't at all)... but I'm very into fitness and exercise, eat a lot of fruit and lean meals... and if the very occasional McDonald's apple pie is my only vice... then I'm glad they're still around.
That being said though... I am dead against junk food being provided in school cafeterias. That just isn't the place for it.

At some point people in this country need to start taking responsibility for their own actions. Whether it is smoking, drinking, or double quarter-pounders, it's the individuals responsibility to know what they are putting into their body and they have the right do what they want to it.
So no McDonalds should not be shut down. If society as a whole goes on a healthy eating trend and McDonalds sales drop then they will be forced to change to stay on business. You can already see an adjustment with their fruit bowls and grilled chicken salads. But as long as people are too lazy to or unwilling to eat healthy, McDonalds will remain fattening and has every right to be.

If we were living in a totalitarian society, where the government makes all the choices for you, absolutely. However, last time I looked at the calander, it wasn't 1984. We live in a society where everyone has the right to choose. You can choose if you want a Big Mac, or a salad. You can choose if you want a side of fries, or an apple. You can choose if you want a soda, or milk. So, in essence, if McDonalds makes you fat, its because you chose to eat there too much. McDonalds is great for a treat, and afterwards, you don't have to run an extra mile. Keep a healthy lifestyle, and that will balance out unhealthy McDonalds.
BTW, bring back the supersizes. I'm hungry. I don't want to buy another sandwich, when I can get a large fry and drink for a few cents more. It's my choice.

I know the health Nazis would love to shut it down.
McDonald's is not the only one that serves fattening food. It's just on more hit lists than the others.

No, but if McDonald's ever shuts down, it's probably because of the new sandwich they have on the menu. It's called a McJackson, named after Michael Jackson. It consists of a piece of 47 year old meat on a 10 year old bun. He he...

I dont think they should be closed down, I think that people should be educated as to what is healthy/not healthy to eat everyday. I know people that eat there daily, and then wonder why their triglycerides are through the roof. I am a vegetarian, so I do not eat there, unless I just have a garden salad. I do, however take my kids there from ime to time (maybe once every couple months) to get a happy meal. Also when I want a sinful treat, you can't beat their fries! But I do not eat there daily.

No, we need to keep our freedom of choices, and I disagree with the portion control issue as well. People want to find blame for over-eating, bad cholesterol, etc. Truth of the matter is , you can't eat Mcd's all the time. And if you need to keep your portion down, order a burger not a Big Mac. It is up to one self to make and keep good choices, not to reflect your bad ones on everybody or everything else. By the way I love the Big mac, but I exercise and eat right most of the time so I can indulge in what ever fast food I like.

Definitely not, but I think it's really disgusting and totally unnecessary for it to be open 24 hours a day. When I was a teenager we at least had to get out of the damn car and walk into a Diner if we wanted to stuff our faces after going out dancing or whatever...and at least the food was real and better for you. There's no need to be able to pull your car up to a window and stuff your face with deadly TRANS FAT at 4:00am. There just isn't.

If you look at the nutritional information for any restuarant you wishyou will be shocked at the amount of fat in many of their dishes-even the ones you think of as healthy. I was recently shocked to see that the Panera Bread Cafe Salad (romaine lettuce, tomatoes, veggies) has 400 calories and 37 grams of fat! That is from their own website. You think you're eating healthfully by getting a veggie salad, then you see, you aren't. The moral of that story is, whenever you aren't preparing your own food, don't assume it's healthy just becasue it SEEMS like it is.

No, not all of mcdonald's food is fattening, they do have some new good choices like their grilled chicken sandwhiches, and their salads, and the even go yoghurt parfaits, if people keep going there then thats their problem, just dont eat there if you dont want all the extra fat and cals.
