Hi all,

When did you, or are you, planning to buy things for baby? I am 16wks pregnant with my first baby and have already started buying (and receiving as gifts from family) things such as nappies/clothes/blankets/baby monitors/bouncer etc - some people are telling me i am starting way to early because something "could happen" and i would have all of this stuff for nothing.

The reason i started buying at this stage was because i worried alot in the first few months that something "would happen" so in order to make a conscious effort to have a "positive" attitude i started preparing myself with baby items.

Is it too soon? Or is it good to be thinking this positively? Thoughts anyone?

I don't see why you should be thinking negatively if you've never been pregnant before. And what kind of people would tell you it may all be for nothing? Shame on them!
You are right in keeping a positive attitude, and in my opinion you should be revelling in happiness right now! I bought my daughters first blanket when I was a month along. Acquired all sorts of stuff by the time she was born.
I say get happy, be happy, and enjoy your pregnancy.
All the Best!

I started buying things like clothes and stuff for baby when I found out the sex, which was round 20 weeks (but started buying things like baby thermometers and safety nail cutters earlier). I wanted to make sure that I bought the right stuff. I think that its good to start buying things a little early becuase then you will have more time at the end of you pregnancy to relax, becuase you have everything done earlier. You wont be running around like a crazy woman in the end. Plus it will give you time to really buy what you want and it will let you shop around if you start early. Just my thoughts...Congrats by the way!

I would definately recommend buying your baby stuff earlier rather than later. The reason I say this is because I am 5 1/2 months and my hubby and I today went out and bought a crib...well carrying that darn box was so heavy, it strained my already sore back even more. Buy your big stuff now. If you wait until later in the pregnancy you may not have as much energy!!

Girl I started buying the minute I found out! Having a baby is a joyus occasion that should be celebrated. Yes something could happen, but it also could not. And if it makes you happy and able to enjoy being pregnant then buy what you want. If those people think it is too early to buy thing b/c "something could happen" then tell them not to buy until they feel comfortable (or not at all).

good Luck and Congrats!

i always think that positive thinking is a good way to forget fears of miscarriage and negative things like that.
you are usually considered in the safe zone after 12 weeks.
it's up to you when u feel ready to buy baby stuff. do u know what u are having?
i am due in 3 weeks and i have not bought a thing, but i have a son who is only 10 months old so all his stuff are still brand new and i am going to use that all i need to buy is a double pram.
good luck and congrats!!!

My family gave me gifts and i bought little stuff before 20 weeks, but the best time to really start buying and planning the baby room is after 20 weeks because that is when you wont have a miscarriage anymore.

Dont wait until late in your pregnancy, because believe me you wont feel like doing it. You just want to relax and not stress over everything being ready for the baby

Congrads.

I purchased a few small things right after having my ultrasound at 20 weeks. Shortly after, I registered for the baby. I didn't begin getting things for the baby until I had my baby shower at around 35 weeks.

I think it's all up tp you. They say usually in your first three months is the highest chance for something to go wrong. I started buying early too!! I couldn't help myself, the stuff is so darn cute! So enjoy your pregnancy, and you will be healthier if you are not stressed about it, or try not to stress! Good luck!
