they are allways named with letters from the Greek alphabet what do,s this signify ?

Nothing. They are just names.

There are a number of fraternities that have chapters at many universities across the country. Therefore, an Alpha Tau Omega from one school has a connection to an Alpha Tau Omeag at another. They tend to attract similar types of members as well, though that isn't always the case.

Yes, they are just names. The significane I think is that some of the oldest higher education institutions were in ancient greece. Also many years ago, it was common for people to go to school to learn Latin and Greek. So back in those days, they probably at least knew how to recognize the letters. lol

It's a very long standing tradition to name and identify fraternities and sorrorities with Greek letters. I'd love to know how it got started.
