i've played wind and string instruments. i've noticed that wind instruments are limited in what they can do, and on their own don't sound very pleasing. overall, a wind instrument is not difficult to master.

string instruments are extremely difficult and take tons of dedication and practice. in the end, a string instrument sounds much better than a wind instrument. usually, the string instruments get more important parts.

Stringed instruments are considered more "refined" than wind (specifically brass) instruments. After all, if you're going to have a tea party, which music would you choose - a nice string concerto or a loud jazz piece? Mozart or Sousa?

That said, I've known plenty of snooty brass players, and plenty of unrefined string players!

we have similar taste, fellow aussie! (I am going to assume you are an aussie) basicly I am going to tell ya to look at the Triple J hottest 100 stuff they usually have good songs. but Green Day, Good Charlotte, Muse, The Wombats, Girls like Boys, the Beautiful girls, Paramore (really awesome!) are some bands I would recomend other than what ya already have...Nickleback and matchbox Twenty also good....but I recogmend you check out The Cat Empire, not really in the genre but then i can't really compare them to anything, great aussie band. If you don't know them, check 'em out!

um... i think it's just because string players (i'm assuming like guitar players in a rock band) just have stuff that interests more young people, which get the most attention.... and band intrument player don't have lyrics like say, rock bands would have. kids attach to the lyrics a lot more than anything else....
