Why is everyone told that they have to celebrate this artificial "holiday" when it has no history, and when it has no relevance?

Trust me-it's not a big deal.
Only in areas of the country where it can be artificially stimulated is it even visible.

Because some people like new and unique celebrations. I think Kwanzaa in general reflects African American cultural values and history. I wonder how Jews felt about early Christianity. Live and let live and maybe make a buck or two out it.

Beats me as to why Kwanzaa is such a big deal. But, a good argument could be given that ALL of the "holidays" are made-up...

"Kwanzaa" was introduced to the states in December 1966.Not a few years ago,but 40 years ago.It was introduced by " Dr Maulana Karenga". If you are interested in the history/orgin I would suggest you check out the official website...www.officialkwanzaa.website.org. .You can and or will find that it is a Cultural holiday and that it is one of the few holidays that's driven by "Commitment to Family" opposed to Commercialism. If you are sincere with your research, you will find that "Kwanzaa" has been celebrated longer than Christmas!

Yeah!

Christmas wasn't a big deal until Macy's department store got hold of it.

Kwanza should not be a big deal until Amazon.com gets behind it!

It's Wonderful for people that can't get their Christmas gifts mailed in time! Every year I think of converting -- how do you do it? (Then I think of going "Jehovah's Witness." They don't have to mail presents at all!)
