We want to go there next year and would like some pointers and comments from anyone that has camped there during the race.

I will be going there this summer too, but camping further away from the track.
Did you try their website?
One word of advice.......don't just book thru the website...CALL THEM in person. they are much more honest when you phone them.....trust me, it's a tip I learned from Michigan Speedway.
And while you are at it Check out the Busch race in MONTREAL on the following weekend, i think....not that far apart, Canada's nice to visit.

go to racetickets.com and check there. also go to watkinsglenraceway.com and check there as well. you might also check nascar.com as a good 3rd choice

sorry cant help you, but dont forget bug sprey during summer on worm nights there a ton of bugs there.........my friend told me that
