Yankees should NOT raise payroll to get more of the big name players. What they need to do is trade AROD to get some pitching...Ervin Santana or Dontrelle Willis I would love to get.

They also need to get Carl Pavano back on track...move Phil Hughes up from Trenton...convince Randy Johnson to retire...I'd get rid of Giambi too but he'd be tough to unload I think. Sheff needs to go too and hopefully they can hold onto Melky and give him more playing time somehow.

Big name players they don't need...they won those WS rings on players that weren't big name players...winning those 4 WS rings made them household names...and whomever says Jeter sucks is absolutely moronic...say whatever you want about the Yankees...but Jeter...is an unbelievably dedicated and talented player...and the AL MVP in my opinion...Jeet is THE MAN!!

Nope that would just mean another overpriced player. People forget to see that many of the players are just overpaid...Also the Yankees payroll shouldn't be an issue since it's going to be the 7th different World Series champion in 7 years, something the NBA, NFL, or NHL could not do.

Lol. I'm sure Steinbrenner would probably agree with you. Someday he'll realize that you can buy talent, and you can buy wins over the long-haul (i.e., division championships), but you can NEVER buy world championships. There are just too many variables in short playoff series, not the least of which is the fact that most other teams are so much more cohesive and passionate.

You see all these Yankees / Red Sox / Mets fans still smarting over the fact that they haven't been able to buy a championship in the last 2 years.

I hope all the small market / grow your own talent / hard working teams keeps winning it all.
