In my spare time I test antivirus/antispyware programs. I can tell your from experience that Nortons & Mcafee are pure garbage for many years and they both continue to get worse. Neither one would know a virus if and when it is right in their face. Plus they don't remove anything. All you are going to get is bogged down with all your resources being used up.

If you want an excellent free antivirus an I use it in my secondary pc go to: http://www.avast.com This is state of the art technology that is free and far superior then the one you pay for. Never had one virus in nine plus years. You will have to fill out a short form with your email address, so they can send you a free registration key. The key is good for one year an after the one year you must request another key. (This program has no adware or hidden embedded virus or spyware). You will get frequent updates and free support. The free for home use is the same as the corporate. They just make corporate pay for their use.

If you want to pay money I use in my primary pc an antivirus program that is used by the Government of China. You will only pay a one time fee of $29.99 for life. This includes all updates, new versions and support.. Company is out of Beijing, China.

Here are the details for the "Twister", from Beijing, China.

http://www.filseclab.com

Being a clinical psychiatrist I have a moral and legal obligation to keep my pc 100% clean from all virus/spyware/malware.

I tested every free and purchase antivirus system known. An I found only one that actually works 100%. Never had a virus or spyware in my system in nine years.

Go to, www.filseclab.com and download thier Twister AntiTrojan Virus program. (You will have to pay a small one time fee). You will never have to pay an annual fee for updates, support or new versions. The one time fee is for life. ($29.99)

The software company is located in Beijing, China. They have excellent support, frequent large signature updates an as always all new versions are free. No annual fee for anything.

Comes with a real time scanner that really works. Actually I am quite amazed over the nine years how well it works.

Scans memory on startup.
Real time scanning in the background.
Open any webpage with an embedded trojan/spyware or malware and scanner will clean on the spot. An It is really removed from your system.

Download any kind of program from zips, all compressed files, software files, music, etc, etc, an if there is a hidden embedded trojan, spyware, malware, this program will stop the download and clean. An will advise you to end the download.

Will even find a virus in the installer wizard, like "Wise Installer". And will stop the installation while it is being installed and clean. Plus this program always will trace back who installed the trojan.

I had a trojan in and wizard installer. Twister caught the trojan and stopped the installation. I wrote the origianl company and told them the wizard installer had an embedded trojan to steal your data. The company now uses thier own installer.

You can't beat this software for a one time purchase fee only. Actually I don't know of any antivirus progam that even comes close to this state of the art technology.

All I can say it is worth the one time fee. Your pc cost alot of money and you don't want it destroyed. Plus your privacy is protected at all times.

There is nothing in it for me to praise this program. I tell it like it is. If it is garbage then I will say so.

Both are excellent. You have a free one to pick an a purchase one to pick.

Make sure that you always update all your Microsoft critical updates that come out every second Tuesday of the month. Plus when a virus or spyware is found, be sure and reboot your pc.

Clinical Psychiatirst.

If you wish a minimum process efficiency influence restrict each Norton and McAfee. Go with Kaspersky or BitDefender for the reason that each ranked greater over Norton and McAfee for 2009, 2010 and 2011 because the nice laptop safeguard techniques.

Nether one. However Norton has the biggest market share.

The programs I use when I run Windows XP Pro is Tuneup Utilities, System Suite Pro, Lava Soft, Security Task Manager, and NoAdware.

System Suite Pro has a built in firewall, it will tell you when a program is trying to access the Internet and then ask for Yes or No.

According to posters on GRC forum (people smarten than me) neither one is too good. Some people believe that big combine applications as Norton, McAfee, Zone Alarm have long history of conflicting with various softwares and unpredictable arbitrary actions. Personally I don’t feel comfortable with application which do things w/o telling me behind my back, as well attempts to do thousand things which I don’t expect it to do and at the same time fails to do good that what I expect of it – just be AV, firewall or whatever the case. According to various and numerous people on many different forums (opinion which I trust) smaller stand alone application are often believed to do better jobs: NOD32, Avast etc
I sort of feel that ability of evaluating security software requires top expert someone with really thorough expertise and knowledge – therefore personally I trust opinion of people which I feel are smarter than me,…

I personally dislike McAfee. I use Norton. But neither are best, and here's why.

If we all used the same anti-virus program, then a new virus would WHACK us all. But with a diversity of solutions, one virus can't get us all. So pick one; and I will use what I want. But I do recommend that you check the ratings at http://www.cnet.com You might discover (someday) that some of the FREE solutions are highly rated, and worth using.

AVG Anti-virus is free, and it is at http://www.grisoft.com/doc/1

Good luck

Norton is best than all.......MAcfee is a formal antivirus and Norton is aware of all virus and spams.. it scans memory and PC from depth and never allows any virus or spam to grow or infect...

___ and listen___

Never download any antivirus from anonymous websites.. always download from professional ones.... like Macfee.com for MAcfee and norton from it's official website. Because other websites download spam with your antivirus...and befor running antivirus... these infect your PC......So beware!!!!!
