I don't know how it happened, but I suddenly got a severe infestation of viruses and the sort on my PC. THe thing is I don't know how to get rid of them. One of my friends told me about this really great program, but I forgot the name of it. Can anyone give me a good program for removing these unwanted programs from my computer?

In what little spare time that I test antispyware an antivirus program to see if the perform as claimed. Here are the ones I use in my two computers an I have never had one spyware or virus. Just remember that you can only use one antivirus program or you will have serious conflict. You can use three four antispyware if your resources will allow you to without slowing down your system and there is no conflict.

Please make sure that you have all of your Microsoft critcal updates that come out every second Tuesday of the month installed. And make sure that you have a good free firewall, like http://www.zonealarm.com (If you use Windows XP Prof., their firewall will only protect you from incoming traffice and not outgoing from your pc. So turn off that firewall if you have that platform).

All of the below I use in my own personal pc to protect the medical records an other data on my patients.

http://www.superantispyware.com This is an excellent free spyware program that as state of the art technology that is light years ahead of any other spyware program Will find spyware that other never seem to find. Scans all 175,000 objects in my pc. You must update manual daily or twice per day for the core signature updates related to spyware. If you want to upgrade all you will get is automatic updates an a background scanner. Always best to open this program from the icon in your tray.

All new versions that come out you will get them as an automatic update for superantispyware. Otherwise you must update manual for signature spyware updates.

http://www.ewido.net Here is another excellent free program that scans all 175,000 objects in my pc. The program is free if you don't upgrade in thirty days. All you get with an upgrade is auto updates an a guard in your tray. The free or paid is the same.

http://www.emsisoft.com This is another excellent spyware program especially if you use dial-up as it will protect you from rogue dialers. (I use ADSL). This program will require you to give them your email address so they can send you a free registration key. After you install the email address that you used to obtain the key and the key they send you, their server will validate the info.. If it is correct will say, "Go With God's Speed". And you complete the installation.

The first one I gave you is the absolute best in my opinion because it find spyware that is hard to find and missed by other programs. Plus it will never give you a false positive. Neither will the others.

Please only use one antivirus program as you will have serious conflict if you use more then one antivirus program. This is not the case with antispyware software.

Alway reboot if your spyware programs should find spyware or a trojan.

Here is a really excellent free antivirus program. They will require you to fill out a short form so they can send you a free key good for one year. After one year you must request a new key. The free version for home use is the same as the corporate version. They just make corporate pay for theirs.

http://www.avast.com Updates are automatic and usually twice per day. Plus if you have on your speakers a male voice will tell you that "Avast" has updated your system. If you open a web page and there is an embedded spyware or virus, Voice will come on and tell you, plus you will also get a pop-up from your tray for updates an any virus found.

Have fun.

For spyware, download the program Spybot Search & Destroy. It's free online.
For adware, download the program AdAware. It too is free.
For viruses, get the program Norton Anti-Virus or McCafee Anti-Virus. You have to pay for these ones.

The only real solution is to have your computer formatted and have everything reinstalled. You can get it done by a professional for 40 of 50 bucks.
