He is 4! He wants attention.
Try this:
wake him up early, keep him active ALL DAY. Make a date with your wife and take him to the zoo or a Chucky cheese type of place. Get him good and tired. Make sure the sugar intake is limited- no pop or candy before bed. By 8 or so he should be good and tired..then its time for your playtime.
Otherwise- look into getting a sitter of 1 nite a week- do you can have a date with your wife. Isnt there a sister or younger niece looking to make some $$? Drop him off on a Sat afternoon and spend time with her. it could be the break you need.

The problem is that a 4 year old is not going to be interested in playing on his own.
I have a 3 year old and he in the interactive stage where playing WITH you is all he wants . .
Either get a babysitter and go out with your wife, or use the naptime for private time, or do what most of us others are doing and wait until he goes to sleep . . .
It's hard but thats what happens when you have kids :)

Sneak around during nap time or make a date night once a week like the rest of us do... get a good baby sitter and take your wife on a date once in a while...

ask your mom or mother in law (or fathers too or any family member for that matter) to take your child for a day so you can have time with your wife. If that is not possible try to find a friend that will take your kid for a while so you and your wife can have an afternoon together or an evening together. I think it is nice you are wanting to have time alone with your wife. I think she will like it too.
Good Luck

Plan a special evening and arrange for your son to be at grandma's or a friends place. Make it a romantic evening.
I assume the kid has his own room. He needs to be put in his bed and be taught to stay in bed until he gets up in the morning. Most kids that age go to bed around 8 PM . That should give you and your wife time to be together.

You have to spend private time when he is asleep. That is the compromise when you have kids. Besides he is too young to understand anything like that all you have to do is wait til he gets older he will get the picture maybe one more year. Hang in there.

yup thats kids for you, but you are responsable for him so i do wish u good luck, but it is hard for married couples with children to still be intimate due to what you just wrote about, but get someone to babysit once a week, so that you to can have a night alone. and if not when he's sleeping at night sit down together and watch a movie or do somethingu both enjoy goo luck
