The toolbars at the top of Internet Explorer are customizable. If you Lock the Toolbars then you can't change them or move them unless you unlock the toolbars.

There are a lot of programs and services like Yahoo and Google that offer their own toolbars. I like the Google toolbar because it also acts as a popup blocker and it makes Internet Research easier.

Under the Menu Favorites there is a system default submenu called Links. When you go to an Internet Site that you like you can bookmark it and add it to your list of favorites: Favorites > Add Bookmark or Ctrl + B. If you add a shortcut to the Links submenu then it will appear on the Links toolbar as well.

A few sites have symbols (icons) associated with their site. If you add this site (bookmark it) to your Favorites then the icon can show up before the name. This is what you are looking for.

You can custom create your own icons, add stock icons from MS Windows, or use other people's icons. Select the link you want to customize then right click on it and select the properties on the drop down menu. A new dialogue box will appear. Then click on the Web Document at the top of the new dialogue box and click on the Change Icon button.

A second dialogue box will appear. If you press the Browse button then you can use a Windows Explore Interface to find new icons, or you can select a stock icon from the window. If you found a site with icon files then you can download them and use them as well. You have to use *.ico files though.

When I want to put up a website on my Links toolbar I like to go to the site, copy their symbol, edit it in a paint program like Paint Shop and then save it as an icon file (*.ico), then move it to the Windows file where the icons are kept (the first section you start in when you click on the Browse button) and put the new icon there. I then go back to the website shortcut > Properties > Change Icon. Since I put my new icon in the default directory I can find it easily, and so can IE. Then I can assign my own icon to each link.

You can rename the shortcut to anything you want. For my link to Ask.com (an Internet Search Engine site) I put up a small symbol of Ask and only a comma as the name. I don't need anymore since the icon says it all.

Locking the taskbar just keeps it the way you last left it. Your bookmarks should be all the way to the right where the two arrows pointing to the right are. Just click on that and you should see a list and "bookmarks" or "favorites" should be listed there. Just click on it.

Hope that helps.
