I think first of all, that people have such a bad opinion because they have had some kind of negative experience with a lawyer.
There are lawyers and lawyers, so one cannot really stick them all in the same bucket!
Through personal experience I have found that certain lawyers, pick and choose their clients depending upon the kind or type of case. You will find alot of them specialize ins certain areas, so if you need a lawyer, then inform yourself and choose one that is specialized in the area, for which you need.
Lawyers have to live too, they have studied a long time, There are alot of cowboys around too, there always are where there is alot of money to be made.
No, I do not think they are all money-stealing sharks, but obviously there are some!

Because the legal system is so complex and procedurally anal that you need a lawyer and they know it. Judges will not accommodate self representatives who don't know the procedures 100% so you will burn on your own by trying to represent yourself. The lawyers know it is impossible so they can charge outrageously and get away with it. The amount of work they put into a case usually can't come close to justifying the obscene fees they charge. And when you add things like $5 per fax and $20 per phone call on top of their $200, $300, even $500 per hour it IS disgusting what is charged. And there's not a thing you can do about it. Pay it or burn.

Because nearly all of the lawyers my mother has been to for help in getting custody of my sister and I have been amazingly rude. One of them demanded parking money, petrol money and $100 dollars for travel time for a half-hour trip.Oh,did I mention that this man actually demanded nearly $50,000 and ended up doing nothing at all? There was also the small problem that this lawyer was emotionally abusive. When in meetings with my mother he used to say to her,"you are the weakest person I have ever met".And,after all of that,it turned out he was actually in cahoots with my father, who was paying him off to do a bad job on my mother's case.Is that enough for you?

Don't worry,I know that not all lawyers are like that. Most of them are probably decent people. We just had the misfortune of not getting any near where we live.

Because we've met and dealt with them. They take all your money and don't represent you well unless you single-handedly put one of their kids through college. Quite a few of them anyway. What do you think of a lawyer that wants you to do all his work for him and doesn't tell you how? I was dumped by a lawyer that represented me and my daughter in a case involving an auto accident that wasn't my fault. He said I wasn't bringing him any evidence (he never asked me to do that). Another lawyer who was court appointed to help my husband with a felony charge did nothing for him at all except to advise him to take any deal that was offered. He told us we were screwed over a statement that my husband was coerced into signing without reading it or writing it. My husband was seventeen at time of his arrest and under the influence of alcohol (with no representation), and his lawyer didn't even ask for it to be thrown out. The person who committed the crime stood in court and told everyone that my husband did not participate in this crime also but nobody wanted to hear that either.

A few days ago there was a judgement against a hospital for a child who suffered irreparable brain damage cuz he was given Co2 instead of O2 when he was born. The judgement was for something like 12 million dollars ... the lawyer keeps 25% of that. It's immoral to me that he should get 4 million dollars for that ......

I don't have a bad opinion of lawyers/solicitors, we had a really good one when we needed him 2 years ago and he won a big case for us and got us the compensation we deserved, so no complaints from me.

Because most of them are liars and cheats, they tend to drag cases on to make more money out of naive people. Also a defence lawyer will lie through his back teeth to try to clear a criminal, knowing that he committed the crime. I rest my case.

The only time I have used an attorney he charged a huge retainer and was very ineffective when we actually went to court. He was supposed to be handling 2 different parts of one case. He presented only one part of my case in court and told me I would have to pay another retainer fee to have him represent me in the other issue. I didn't even know until my day in court (after waiting almost a year to get there) that the other issue wasn't going to be brought up.

Attorney's don't care about their clients or their circumstances or pain they are going through. All they care about is dragging out a case as long as they can so they can keep charging for every time you call them to see what's going on and every letter they have to send back and forth to the other attorney.

It's just a big scam. I wouldn't waste another penny of my money on an attorney.

The lawyer working on my case had time to have two babies whilst working on the case,it took six years to come to court, I won and got peanuts they got £500,000! you work it out.

The lawyer on another case tried to bill me for there time to find out the law on my probs, that's there bag, I don't have to pay a plumber to find out how to fix a dripping tap!

The people who have had to use a lawyer know only too well who's side they are on, there own!!!
