Good question, the answer depends on who you ask.
Consider this. The incident happened in 1947, less than 10 years later all sorts of new technology is being announced, lasers, transistors, a huge step in computers, new airframe designs, etc. Coincidence?
Also Col. Martel, before he died a few years ago gave a rare on camera interview in which he stated that Roswell was a real ship with alien crew.

Lets put it like this,an incident that took place a while ago & was kept from a lot of people did occur, the contents of the incident will be available to the general public when it is believed that it is no longer of consequence,say about 75 years time.

It was a weather balloon. The witnesses tell all sorts of different stories.
I've watched all sorts of shows on the history channel about it.
