They like to keep up with fashion. They can also look for lower cost copies. I used to read GQ & Esquire. They are really cheap to subscribe to less than a dollar an issue and worth it for someone who wants to look good, but once I retired, I have no need to impress anyone.

As a female designer, addicted to Vogue, I have to say that it is for one simple reason that some women buy these magazines: Because it isn't just about the fashion.
Is about the design, is about the art. Is about the little moments in which you can see unique beauty in a Chanel ad, or absolute perfection in a pair of Manolos.
It's about the written pieces that subtly expose the rawness of humanity. Believe it or not, that can be found in the pages of Vogue.
It is much more, so much more than a fashion magazine. It's not something that can be explained with words, how can you explain the thrill in reading what inspired Karl Lagerfeld for the latest Chanel collection? It's extraordinary! It's inspiring. And maybe it's just meant to be for the people who do get excited about the beauty of Sarah Jessica Parker's shots in the Plaza, or Sandra Bullock's "Audrey Hepburn-ish" black dress pictures.
There's more to it than meets the eye. Simple as that.

some people use fasion magazines as a guide to what they should dress like. if you see what some model is wearing and you think it is cute then cool. of course it is too expensive to buy. but say you go into a store and you see something that looks like that for 10 bucks. then great buy it and people will ask you where did you get that. or that is so cute! they probably saw it in the magazine and wonder how you can afford such cute clothes.

I agree, they are full of ads and things that most people would only wear on a runway!! I don't buy them! I would look at maybe an Entertainment magazine that comments on things like "What not to wear", and also have juicy gossip, and trashy articles. But VOGUE, and Bazaar..they are like BOOKS, full of ads, and a lot of unrealistic wanna be trends.

I susbscribe to multiple magazines, predominately fashion but others too. I buy them for the pictures because they serve as great referance matieral for illustations, fodder for collage pieces and everyone in a while I'll find a really gorgeous photograph for my wall of inspiration. I agree that a lot of the clothing is simply impractical . . . but from an artist point of view crazy-inspiring!

Actually, I read it for the ads. I know that sounds silly, but I subscribe for $1.00 per issue and that's better use of my time than going to style.com or another website to look at next season's clothes. Occasionally they have an interesting article, but that's just gravy for me really as I'm really interested in seeing next season's clothes and trends.

They want to be trendy and fashionable. Besides, many can buy those clothes, at least some of it. And magazines also motivate them to be fitter, by looking at slim models.

People buy fashion magazines to be another victim of the illness called FASHION. :P
Usually it's interesting to know what colors are good to wear in that year, why, where and when.
