Weasel is right about the lifter covers. The 292 was the heavy duty engine and was put in the 3/4 ton and larger trucks. I have only seen a few in 1/2 ton trucks, and they were special order towing packages.

I thought the 292 was a v-8 and I know the 250 is an inline-6.

the 292 strt 6 has taller lifter covers on the side of engine than the 250

I'm not sure but wouldn't a 292 be a V8 & the 250 a 6 cylinder.

Call a chevy dealer and have them run the vin number/ block number.
