or is it random? did it came from other thoughts? or from our surroundings?

I really appreciate good answers! been thingking about this for a long time.. thanks a bunch!

Excitement, bordom, sadness, and emotion of lack there of I think causes you mind to try and entertain yourself.

nothing is random exactly...maybe untimely! any thought that you have at any given time is knowledge that is in your brain already or you wouldn't be able to think it...of course imagination probably plays a role in all this if your considering it to be random or its just that your brain has more going on in there at one time then you think...or perhaps as you suggest your surroundings may trigger a thought or memory and then all the sudden there it is...a random thought.....

We do not get random thoughts but those who have a blank mind or think a lot about different things fill their mind with positive or negative thoughts

You control your own thoughts.

Outside influence can have an effect, such as sight/sound/smell triggering a memory.

Would thinking about talking foxes who can play chess qualify as random?

Little things that float to the surface of our subconscious. We may not be aware of what triggers them and therefore consider them random.
