Never put a dog into a home without a big yard!
Cats stink, so a small apartment would always have a nasty smell.
Birds are actually messy, but serviceable. Do you really want to support an industry that mutilates brids so they can be kept as pets?
Hamster? Double the cage size. Double the play area. Double the play toys. A hamster would be a great pet for a small apartment.
A small non-barking dog (otherwise your neighbors will have you evicted) would be a choice second to the hamster, but you've got to walk it (that doesn't mean take it out for business and bring it back, it means time outside) at least twice a day and you need someone to take care of the dog whenever you want to go away for a day or two or more.
I have dogs, cats, and hamsters. Had rabbits and guinea pigs. I have friends with birds.

This is a question that really depends on your preference to animals. Some dogs do very well in small apartment life. Examples of breeds who will do well are miniature Australian Sheppard, cocker spaniel, some terriers, and dachshunds. Here is a good resource if you want more information for dogs in the city: http://www.canismajor.com/dog/apart.html
Hamsters are really not all that fun for me because I like an animal that can cuddle up with me. Plus they require weekly cage cleaning. A cat is a really good choice for an apartment. Biggest thing is to know what is aloud in your apartment building. Good luck with the pet finding!! Have fun.

Cats are AWESOME apartment animals and do very well as indoor only creatures. Small dogs such as Yorkshire Terriers or Chihuahua's could be great as well. Also, I've read up on Yorkshire Terrier's.. I found that you can actually train a Terrier to go to the bathroom in a litter box like a cat, so if you eventually want one of each, it's a perfect combination.

A small dog, cat, hamster, or possibly a ferrett. The main thing here is that you are going to be happy with your choice of pet. I am a dog person myself, so nothing else would really do for me. If your first choice is a dog, then get a small dog. And if you are alone, dogs make for the perfect companions, they just seem to be more personal.

A small dog like a chihuahua or a pomeranian would be fine. In fact, I think small pet would be great for you. I only mentioned dogs first beause walking your dog is a good form of exercise, and dogs are always friendlier than cats or hamsters.

firstly check to see if you have landlord permission for ANY pets...
apartments are terrible for puppies (too hard to house train) and even tricky for dogs (what if you are sick or dont feel like walking?? how will you excercise the dog and get it out to pee/poop 4 -8 times a day?)
cats are great - get an adult rather than a kitten... or even 2 cats.. but make sure they are indoors ONLY - too many neighbours steal cats who are outside and "dispose" of them for being pests...also make sure you are allowed cats AND are not planning on moving - very hard to find another place that allows pets
rabbits are good pets... hamsters are nocternal and prone to bite so are not that great.. fish??
check your local SPCA or humane society first when you are looking becuase their rates are always the lowest and they have good selection... take your time dont rush... NEVER buy from a pet store you will pay too much for low quality pet

it depends on how active the dog is (if u want to get a dog). Try getting and older dog, one that will behave. If your looking for another type of animal you can try going for a lizard, hampster, rat or even a bird that can keep you company. I have two birds and ni tought them how to talk and they are really great. It depends on what kind of animal you are looking for, a cat would also be a good pet for an apartment. hope this helped! :)

A small bird (budgie, parrotlet, canary, etc.) might be a good idea. It can stay in a cage, and when it does come out of the cage, it doesn't need a ton of space. Budgies are pretty cheap ($20 USD) and the supplies aren't nearly as much as a dog.

Birds can be very loud in small spaces, alot of dogs do really well in small spaces, provided they get out for walks daily.
Of course you can always get something like a ferret, awlays fun, and don't take up alot of space

i would say cat. there independent and don't mind being inside. but make sure if you have a cat that it's declawed or it may tear your furniture to shreads. also, i know cats love smaller spaces (unlike me...lol) so an apartment wouldn't be a bad place for a cat. if you got a dog you'd have to make sure it's not too noisy or hyperactive...then you would have a problem.
i still say cat is best.
luck!
