I personally prefer indie. I think that it is because the directors and producers are not concern with "how much money are we going to make?". They are more about making a beautiful film. I wish that movies were more like this, more about real life and none of that fantasy crap that we see every month. Indie movies have really touched me and I have felt inspired, and this connection that I can never feel with a mainstream movie. When money becomes the motive, then a movie is doomed.

yeah, I also prefer indie movies for pretty much the same reasons.
It's just all the mainstream Hollywood movies feel the same and have no intellectual value to them, so I'd much prefer to watch an indie film that I can connect with.

Indie films rule. Typically, just to hear of a title means it has to be the cream of the crop to have made it. And dealing with an uphill battle competing against the blockbuster budget, means they have to be better written and more interesting. Add in indie movies coming in from around the world and you learn something about other cultures and exotic locations. Mainstream is pumping out the same old cookie cutter junk. They spend a big budget to advertise, and on big name actors. Not all that money is going into quality. They cut back on the storyline, tending to go with the same old tried and tested story we all heard before, as they don't want to risk all that money on something new and not tried before. Generally that means more explosions, more potty jokes, or more kid shows. The sequel, the remake, or the sequel to the remake. That's all they make.

I think it depends upon what genre of film I want to see. Sci-Fi which tend to rely heavily on Special Effects (green screen, animation, etc) don't usually do well from indie films. On the other hand, I have seen a lot of indie films surpass the quality of mainstream films in almost every other genre.

I agree with you... indie films, even if they are fictional stories, tend to based on more real life events. Like the movie "CRASH", now that was a great indie film and it totally made me think of how society is still divided today between racial and ethnic groups. This movie opened my eyes to the reality that exists and has made me want to step up and take a stand against racial biases.

I think you are absolutely right. I wish there were more indie films in the theaters, that way, maybe I'd feel like going.

indie of course, some mainstream movies are ok or even good, but only some. Indie movies, regarless of being "bad" or "good" have way more to offer to its audiences than most commercial pieces of millions wasted for nothing.
