if there is a hissing noise while the car is running and the brake pedal seems really hard it could be the booster.there is a small plastic elbow that snaps in the vaccum booster tank that has a rubber grommit around it.it can go bad as well.start the car,wiggle the hose at the booster...if the hissing changes then it is leaking air thru the grommit.

.Hissing like air escaping. To check your booster...pump the brakes with the engine NOT running. Hold your foot on the brake and start the engine. The brake pedal should go down as the engine starts. If not the booster is bad.

What kind of noise?

Usually a bad booster will make a hissing sound or a drawn out Buuurping sound when pushing the brake pedal.
