I was hired under 1099 instead of W2. At the time, I didn't know what it meant to be on 1099. Realized that I was taken for a bargain. Plus the employer told me to work hard or harder than others because I am making more money than anyone else in the project. Found out that to be false later on.

Now the project has been finished. He's offering me another project again on 1099 at a LOWER PAY RATE. Would you ever accept a 2nd project on 1099 on a lower rate than the 1st 1099 project?

Also is there anything you can do about not having been told about the repurcusion of being on 1099 by the employer at the time of interview?

Yes, if it was more than any other option I had at the time. Once you accept the assignment then you have to complete it.

1099 means that you really aren't an employee as much as a contractor. You just need to be carefull on your taxes you need to be paying in quarterly estimates which include your social security taxes.

As for the employer take the money or move on. But I'd also be pursuing other work. What are you going to do next. Because you technically aren't an employee there you are a contractor.
