Spicy Foods
Some will say this is an old wives tale, while others swear their favorite spicy Mexican dish was the reason for the onset of their labor. Either way, it certainly won’t hurt. So if spicy foods are something you enjoy, by all means try it!

Clary Sage Oil
This is an essential oil that can cause strong contractions. Mix 10-15 drops of the oil with a carrier oil such as Almond oil. Rub the oil on your hands and use some lotion (any kind) and just massage in. You can do it for as long as you'd like.
Castor Oil
Taking caster oil is recommended because it is believed to cause spasms in the intestines. The hope is that it would then cause your uterus to contract. While this method doesn’t sound very appealing, neither is what it will cause your body to do, which is empty your bowels. Some moms have reported the only thing that resulted from their drinking castor oil, was a very upset tummy, along with frequent trips to the bathroom. With no contractions after all was said and done. Of course, there are others who it has worked for. If you chose to try this method, you can take 1 to 4 ounces castor oil mixed with 6 ounces of orange juice to cut its oiliness. Be sure to drink it quickly because of its unpleasant taste, and be sure to be close to a bathroom!

Blue and Black Cohosh
These herbs are often used to induce labor. Blue cohosh is believed to make contractions stronger, while black cohosh is believed to regulate the contractions. Together they work to make contractions more effective. Unfortunately, there are no studies to show these natural herbs are safe to use, or whether the herbs available for purchase are of equal potency. Make sure you discuss any herbal treatment with your practitioner before use.

There are all kinds of foods that have been claimed to help bring on labour. I'm not 100% sure as to their effectiveness (I guess no one really is), and of course no amount of home remedies are going to work if the baby just isn't ready to come out yet. But I'll find as many as I can and list them here... you never know:

hot foods (pepperoni, chili, jalapeno etc...)
spicy food
pineapple (fresh, not tinned)
raspberry leaf tea
eggplant
Castor oil (although be cautious about that... as it's a laxative, probably not a great idea really)
licorice

There's also... bouncing on an exercise ball, swinging on a swing, blowing up balloons, walking up and down stairs and laughter.

Perhaps rent the funniest comedies you know, and order a hot and spicy pizza to be delivered... make a fun night of it.

All the best

Is she still with her partner? There is actually a hormone in semen that can help induce labor. Unless her doctor specifically told her "no sex" she might want to try a little fun, if she's not too uncomfortable to do so.
