Aproximately how many days does it take to rid your body of nicotine once you quit? I want to quit chewing tobacco and everytime I try I end up with a bad temper, attitude, and I start feening for a taste of copenhagen. I can't even think straight and it curbs my appetite. I've had accupuncture and it helped for about 6 days to curb my feening, but I still dipped. If I can just quit, I need a goal of how many days I can go before I stop getting the urges from the nicotine.

My grandma once told me to put some tobacco inbetween my toes. Sounds disgusting but no more than putting it in my lip. I guess the nicotine is still absorbed into your body and helps break your habit of putting something in your mouth. Anybody think this would work?

You will have the heaviest cravings for the first 48 hours. After that they will come in spells for the first 2 weeks. Wait them out. They DO NOT last beyond 3 minutes.

Studies have shown that an herbal snuff (without nicotine) will reduce withdrawl symptoms better than nicotine replacement. Although it will not reduce the cravings for a dip, so get plenty of herbal snuff. You want to buy about double the amount of tins you will go through in 2 weeks, just so you don't have the excuse to get a tin of Cope.

I would recommend Hooch Snuff, as it has the closest mouthfeel to Copenhagen. You can get it at http://www.hoochsnuff.com/.
Stay away from any herbal snuff that has Lobelia (tobacco derivative with a similar nicotine component) or actual nicotine.

Here is the text from the University of Illinois at Chicago Department of Psychology study.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The present study investigated the effects of two herbal components of commercially available smokeless tobacco treatment program for reducing subjective withdrawal symptoms during deprivation. One component is a non-nicotinic chew (Herbal Snuff). The second component is a liquid containing the alkaloid Lobeline, which to some extent mimics peripheral nicotinic effects. All participants (N = 22 males) were placed in four conditions: Herbal Snuff + Lobeline, Herbal Snuff + placebo control, Lobeline alone, and placebo control only. The conditions involved 48 h of deprivation, and subjects were exposed to one condition per week for 4 weeks. Withdrawal measures were taken at baseline, 24 h, and 48 h of deprivation. Individuals were randomly assigned, and conditions were counterbalanced. Results showed that Herbal Snuff, as compared with Lobeline, significantly reduced withdrawal symptoms but not craving. These data suggest that behavioral/sensory substitutes' influence on withdrawal might be routed through the product's ability to approximate the preferred moist snuff.

I answered another guys same question with this. My buddy and I chewed for years while playing Junior hockey and when I say we chewed I mean it. He was dipping a log every 10 days or some ridiculous thing like that. He came up with this idea and we went for it together. We both bought brand new tins of Copenhagen and opened them together and ate the chew like candy. Swallowed the whole tin. After puking for about an hour and feeling high for about 30 minutes, he gave a full log and two tins to a friend and I gave 4 tins to another guy on the team. Haven't dipped since. Going on 7 years. Good Luck

Oh boy......

You are in for a very bumpy ride! Guys around our area have big problems with this and all the cowboy hype that goes with it. Girls are even getting into this habit....

Nicotine is nicotine. Mr stopped but went on to cigarettes. I feel some people are addicts and to stop one just makes one go to something else.

If you really want to stop you may have to check yourself into a place to stop. Are there such places anymore? My father went to one also to a alcoholic place back when, his work paid for it. You may want to go to your work and see if they pay for such a thing on there insurance plain?

I would sit and listen to the guys talk and some of them would say they even went to sleep with a dip in there mouth, yuk!

Good luck!!

PS Chewing tobacco goes into your blood stream faster then other ways. At one time I even herd that the manufacturers put something in the chewing stuff to cut the lip making the tobacco go into your blood stream faster? Do not no if this is true or not?

Nicotine's effects are short-lived, lasting only 40 minutes to a couple of hours.
Over a period of about a month, these symptoms and the physiological changes subside. But for many smokers, even a day without nicotine is excruciating. Every year, millions of people try to break the nicotine habit; only 10 percent of them succeed.
You may wish to try nicotine alternatives (patch, gum, etc).
Good luck!
