Most likely the Alternator is bad, but be sure the alternator belt is still there first.

Be warned, on some cars if you remove the battery cable while the car is running and the the alternator IS good, It will Blow the Diodes in the Alternator.

Using a Voltmeter to test is the Better way. 12 volts with car off, 13.8 to roughly 14.2 when running means the Alternator is working. Check ALL fuses first !

Even if your battery is wearing down it could still be your alternator. First have the belt checked to make sure it is not loose. If that is not the case you may want to go to a garage that specializes in alternators. It should be relatively easy to find one in the yellow pages. Most garages can fix your alternator instead of replacing it which is much cheaper and it will work just fine when they are done. Typically when that light comes on it is a problem with your alternator. In any event it is probably not too expensive.

i own a repair shop, and before i did anything id check the battery connections on it,this is the most common cause of the light coming on,it don't mean nothings wrong ,it just simply means it didn't receive a full charge, and that kicked off the light on it,but check the cables, and if it still does it you can take it by by auto zone store, and they can check the alternator and the battery while its still in the car for you,and its a Free check,,good luck with it,,i hope this help,s.

might be alternator. you can put a volt meter across the battery terminals. When the car is off you should read 12 Volts. Turn the car on and you should read slightly greater than 12 Volts.... say about 13 to 14 volts. If this is occuring then it is working fine. If not then your alternator is bad and needs to be replaced. Otherwise your battery will soon die.

no not really, fisrt measure voltage from your posite cable of the battery to the output cable of the alternator, ill make it easy for you the light came on cuz ur not getting inough voltage back to ur battery, ur alternator would be the first thing you check, turn the car on and take off the possitive cable of ur battery if ur car turns off then its ur alternator
