Sweden and the Netherlands. In Sweden gay marriage is legal and accepted. In the Netherlands gays are accepted as well although I am not sure about the legality of gay marriage, as I was not a resident, and it did not come up. I believe they may have a civil union of some kind that is legal but cannot swear to that.

I can't say I've ever been anywhere where being a lesbian or a "gay parent" was ever accepted 100%, but I've been to cities and towns where I've been very accepted.
I think the most unexpected place was a tiny little town in Northern Arkansas that I felt the most accepted. Eureka Springs, AR.
I tiny, tourist driven, victorian resort town, built into the sides of the Ozark mountains where about or maybe more than half the shops and businesses are actaully gay/lesbian run/owned.
The newspaper is very progressively liberal, the shops and businesses all have stickers proudly announcing their gay management or gay friendly attitudes. The town actually holds two pride/diversity weekend celebrations annually. Their local community theatre is run by a proud parent of a lesbian, their newspapers' former editor in chief (just recently left to further a political career) was an out and proud gay man, while their editor of the classifieds is the proud mother of a lesbian.
Sure, Ok...I'll admit, its a bit of shameless family promotion as the Theatre president and classifieds editor are actually MY PARENTS! But the town really is as gay friendly as I've said.
And it's in the heart of REDNECKLAND! Go figure!

Rochester,NY ! NYC is a wild time;so is Boston and Chicago and Key West and Provincetown,MA.LA ain't bad either!Oh,and let's not forget Toronto,Ontario! All these places and more that I have travelled to, I have never felt censored. I am me. A loud and proud OUT gay woman. Vermont is open to gay marriage and borders NYS. I have friends who were married there last year. And I am happy to find out my Swedish heritage supports our rights as human beings!
Thanks for asking!

For me being an Aussie it was refreshing to visit New Zealand. We are such similar countries yet they give their citizens the rights to be married and to be parents. I didn't come across any objecting persons while I was there on my holiday with my girlfriend.

In the U.S. stick to the big cities. Rural America typically isn't GLBT friendly. As far as legal rights, your best bets are the coasts from what it seems. Mostly Mass. and Cali.
