I got a dvd-rw. I set the jumper to secondary master and hooked everything up. It burns regular cds, and reads cd-r etc..however, it does not read dvds or burn dvds. why?

you have to have a programs like dvd shrink to rip the dvds and then burn them to another

As for why you can't burn, you need a program to burn and make sure the have the right burnable dvds. Bland DVD+R discs won't work with DVD-R disc drives.

Mine had to be in the FIRST master hook up slot. As you master slot it will read it. My husband had the same problem when we first got ours
