At 27 you're going to be looked at differently than some 18 year old punk right out of highschool. You'll be seen as mature and choosing policing for a different reason than a kid at 18. Don't be afraid to put in an application and explain why you're better than someone younger. There are plenty of reasons and you know what they are. As long as you didn't let the years between 19 and 25 do to you what they've done to me you should be more than ready to start policing.
Good luck!

No. You can be an officer up until age 40. You're still a kid, really. Mid life is not 27, it's 50. I know someone who just went into the academy at 34.

No way. If you are fit and meet the criteria of being a copper-put yourself forward. You have experience of life which counts for a lot. Until you try you won't find out. Just go to the nearest police station and ask them what you have to do to become a police officer. The pay is good and you can get priority housing to boot!

I;m 28. You're not too old at all but I ignore people who think that 18 year olds are too young as well. The most important things to be a policeman is that you be of good character and common sense with some courage in my view. You don't have to be Sherlock Holmes (maybe crime rates would improve if every policeman was though).

Absolutely not. In fact I have known people join the police in their 40's . The Police Force likes to see recruits who have seen a bit of life and have experience of other jobs and dealing with people so go for it, contact your local force and enquire as to whether they are recruiting at the moment. My daughter has been in the force nearly 6 years and finds it a very interesting, varied and rewarding job.Owing to the lengthy recruitment procedure it could take a year to get in so get started right away. Good luck.

no, i was 44 when i became a correctional officer--all you have to do is pass the classes, qualify with weapons, and pass the State test, and you're in! Good luck (this seems an appropriate category)

I dont know about elsewhere in the country but my own Constabulary (Cambridgeshire) recruits people when into their forties. Given the new anti ageism legislation you should have no problem. Write to your county headquarters.
