you'd be better off making a list of the hardware, graphics card, sound card, modem, etc then installing a new copy of windows xp, downloading the drivers for each of the graphics card, sound card, modem, etc and installing them.

this way you'll have a brand new install of windows with the drivers to operate your hardware.

you can THEN use something like norton ghost to make an image of the hard drive as it is, stick it on a dvd, then when you need to you you can restore your computer from the image on the dvd in about 7 minutes.

this is an equivalent to a restore cd, but finding a medion eI system 5125 restore cd will be really difficult.

Nope.
But if your friend goes to http://www.medion.co.uk/
Clicks the Service and Support link and then the Drivers and Updates link they may be able to find out what they need to.
If this is no good, use the Recovery and Piracy link on the same page, fill out the form and see what Medion say.

If you don't get any joy from the Medion website, download Belarc Advisor, which will give you a comprehensive listing of the components of the system. (This is a free program.)
