Some of those small hard paged toddler books, bath toys, a new toothbrush, hair accessories, candy canes. At all ages, I always included gold foiled chocolate coins to represent what St. Nicholas gave to his neighbors. And of course, a wonderful dolly (safe for toddler) sticking out of the top to greet her on Christmas morning.

Snowdrop's idea is actually one my mom used to do as I grew up. She would always put an orange and an apple in the very bottom of the stocking. On top of that was usually one of those larger bags of M&M's. Once they came out with almond and peanut butter, we each got a different kind, so we could split them up and share.

On top of that was usually a box of crayons, followed by a small coloring book. Although I think I usually got puzzle/coloring books.

Then the very top would be different toys from a dollar store, or stuffed animals.

Some of it would vary from year to year, but the stockings ALWAYS had the apple, orange, and bag of M&M's.

Target comes out with a whole row of age appr. stuff every year at xmas-maybe some of the smaller stuff. You have to put a couple goodies or candies too- it is a sox. I used the classic circus boxed cookies in my kids because they were just butter cookies and then some little fun chocolates. Tiny soft dolls are fun. I made little soft blankets and pillows for my daughters from scrap fabric and got her little furniture as well. Not too tiny but smaller. The rag doll/stuffed doll lines they have out now are great, you can even get furniture and everything and its all fabric and stuffed, nothing hard and she'll keep playing with them for years-mine did till about 7-8 yrs. You can get fun little books and crayons for her too- check Big Lots and the dollar store for cheap coloring stuff- you just keep it in a nice box for when you use it--some of this might be too big for a sock! Sorry! Another thing both my kids loved was a 4x6 photo book I made them of the family and their friends which they had in the car to look at. Also another that I put postcards in of Disneyland and places we went like the beach etc. They could look at them over and over and it was a great car "toy" to keep them busy (ijust bought those little 5-8 page books you slide photos in,like to mail to people or keep in you purse) Happy Holiday!

My mom would always put a chinese yo yo in our stocking, an apple and orange (I believe those are stocking staples) and just a few peices of candy. Alphabet and number flash cards are a good idea and one I used with my own kids. Mittens or gloves. goldfish crakers, a candy cane. Hiar ties or barretts, (My daughter calls them hair pretties), a brush. I found washcloths that were folded and bunched into shapes like stars and hearts. I have even found marionet puppets to put in stockings. Another idea is to put in a small plastic piggy bank with some change in it.

I wouldnt really go nuts over this. She is 2 and will not remember what she got a month later. How about some small picture books, a character toothbrush, some fun colorful socks?

Bubbles, crayons and color books, cute little wind-up toys [Miles Kimball catalogue has them and some cute other stuff], small stuffed animals [make sure one is hanging out the top for her to see right away], kiddie sunglasses, a kiddie toothbrush and flavored toothpaste, Sesame Street video, little books. There are flash cards for little kids out there, to like to learn animal sounds and names. And if you let her have it, candy.
You didn't ask, but there are "I'm two" ornaments, and other keepsake appropriate ornaments out there.
Hope this helps. Early Merry Xmas!

Candy, little soft toys and some paints to paint or bath toys.

She may not remember what she recieved 1 month later, but she'll look back and remember!

Good job for creating great family traditions and memories!

I gave my 2 yr old niece a little photo book and disposable cameralast year for Christmas. She was excited to have her own little brag book when we helped her take pictures of her kitty, mom and dad, grandparents. She still carries it around in her little purse.
