"D" which is now modern day Turkey.
Gallipoli is the site of a major WW1 slaughter of the ANZAC troops (Australia and New Zealand Army Corps) They were used as canon fodder by the British military commanders ( Ulitimately controlled by Winston Churchhill) to try and take the high ground of the Dardanelles and then Constantinople. It turned in to a bloodbath, and the troops were stuck clinging tenuously to a small piece of beach/ coast known as ANZAC cove, and repeatedly sent on suicidal attacks to try and capture more ground. Tens of thousands died, and nothing was gained. Although british troops were also involved, it is largely remembered for the ANZAC contribution, and its meaningless losses of life.
