How do I save a video clip off the web in order to make a gif from it?

I have tried but when I go to open it in a gif program, all I get is thumbnails for the video. What am I doing wrong?

If you have Adobe Image ready, you can select all of the clips in the movie, and save them as an animated gif.

GIF format are pictures only and nothing else. You did nothing wrong thats just what .gif is
