the United States accepts over seas marriages and many areas for instance Hong Kong is international recognized as an area that these issues have over time been constantly appearing (and accepted). There are more issues that should be researched. A United States Citizen must show proof often to the Embassy (or bride to be) of a relationship existing; letters photos addresses copies of e-mails with DATES and POST MARKS. A fast check with embassy on line should also be done. For instance Philippine law states a groom must support his wife. That means you need to make 125% of low income status! you both need proof of any divorce (able to marry). you might be required to show a police search etc. So many issues can come to play. Embassies are on line and can send the info to you or viewed on line. Brides sites also have lawyers that do this full time. prices vary but they often can save you a lot of time (especially as I understand the Philippines) one site that has legal is bridesthrumail.com I have researched similar questions as I am traveling to Hong Kong to meet my fiancee this Christmas. Cannot get married there due to an old British law called posting... it is required to post the upcoming wedding in advance for three months for all to accept or to stop. I now do not have the time on my side. contact me if there are other questions on this issue I can help with. good luck. David
