Slavery did not end in 1865. Lincoln did not free the slaves. It went on for more then 100 years after Lincoln. Slaves were not freed because Lincoln had a good heart. He intiated slavery to try to keep the Union states of the North and South from seperating.
Further, In Lincolns own address he said, that if he would keep slavery if it meant to keep the Union states together.
Do you think that the slavemasters just said ok, here you go, go and be free, be merry.
Further where did anyone think the Slaves were going. Let's see most were not permitted to read or write, they had no homes, no hope in hell of getting jobs. Slaves were threatened by Slave masters to stay. The Slaves that did leave were for the most part hunted down and brought back dead or alive. Further the slave Masters did not pay the departing slaves any wages for the work they did. Slave masters were not about to let their slaves go. Who would do the labourous work.
Once Slaves were established in the 1900's, they still were not free. They went from Cotton fields to shacks with no running water, energy or heat. They still could not get employment. They still could not be treated equally. What do you think the civiil rightgs movement was about. It was about Freedom, Equality and Rights.
I would love to tell you that Slavery ended at a ceratin period, but that would not be true. Afriacan Americans are still fighiting for equality and rights.
If you want to be well versed please read Black History and refulse to be spoonfed this bullcrap!

Slavery was common for thousands of years, probably originating with the agrarian revolution. The real question is, how long was it controversial? I don't know the answer to that one, but I would say at least 200 years.

Slavery has always been present and it still exists today. However, I think it's been controversial for over 100 years at least.

Slavery still exists in places like Sudan. However, it is no longer a controversial issue as the perpetrators now have black skins.
Such things only stir up controversy if the antagonists are white.

Just because slavery might have lasted a certain period, does not mean that there was controversy about it the entire time.

Put down the "infinity symbol. If your teacher marks it wrong....then ask to be moved to an advanced class and that you are no longer interested in learning from someone unqualified to teach reality.
