socks cover your feet. They can be made of wool, cotton, acrylic, nylon. They can be very fine or quite thick. They can go up to your knee, or over your knee, or they can be 'trainer socks' that are so short you can 't see much of them when you're wearing trainers, or they can be ankle-length or half-way up your leg in men's socks. They come in plain or patterened varieties, or you can get 'argylle' (diamond patterned). Girls' / ladies' socks can be very pretty, with flowers, ribbons and so on. You can get sports socks which are made of towelling so they are extra absorbent. Rugby socks are very strong and hardwearing to withstand the game.
During the war women used to knit socks for their men in the army.
Socks are notorious in two ways.
1 They get holes in and you can never find a pair of socks without holes in when you are in a hurry.
2 When socks get washed they become separated from their parteners, and it can be a real problem finding a matching pair when you are in hurry.

Yup, socks are a very important piece of clothing! Not only do they keep your feet warm, they also protect your feet from rubbing against your shoes. And, yes its true, you can never find a pair when your in a rush and you always seem to have a 'holey' pair on when you go visit someone and have to take your shoes off lol

socks are them wooly things u put on ur feet to keep them warm and to stop your shoes rubbing

they're material sewn so they can slip over and cover your feet to keep them warm.they come in lots of different lengths from just covering the foot to past the knee!! u can get cotton ones and fluffy ones and can even get scented ones, like cherry!!
