Another place where people rave about the Clam Chowder is
The Union Oyster House. It is over near Faneuil Hall on the Freedom Trail and is the oldest restaurant in America. Established in 1836. JFK used to lunch there frequently, and always had the "chow-dah" ;)

It is at 41 Union Street and the phone is 617.227,2750

I live at Copley Square, if you have any other specific questions, I will be happy to help out.

Legal Seafoods is great. . Also, Anthonys, or The No Name are great too.. ....Another really weird suggestion, is to go to the Hyatt which is located along the Charles River in Cambridge. Their restaurant there serves the BEST chowder I've ever had, and it's a very little known place to have a nice lunch!

Wait a minute... Boston clam chowder is tomato based. New England clam chowder is cream based. To thicken your Boston chowder, use corn starch. To thicken your New England, put in greater mashed potatoes and much less cream. FORGOT to tell YA... you may desire to cook dinner any starch at boiling for one sturdy minute to do away with the starchy flavor. you ought to try this in a separate pan once you're including it to your chowder after the certainty, or the cream will curdle.

LEGAL SEAFOODS! Period. THE best chowder, and I have had a lot of chowder. There is a Legal Seafoods in the Prudential mall which is connected to the Copley Mall. You could also go to the one near the Four Seasons hotel.

Legal Seafood has some great clam chowder. It's always really busy there, and of course the seafood is excellent. Have crab cakes while you're there.

Find a Joe's American Bar & Grill. They have the best clam chowder, thick and creamy. Get it served in a bread bowl. Yummy!
