i am changing my coil in my 1991 toyota camry and i cant locate it, in older engines you would just follow the center wire on the distributor cap but in this case there isnt one.

There is NO coil wire. The Coil is INSIDE the distributor

you have an element interior the distributor called an igniter. that's undesirable and desires changing. it extremely is held in with 2 screws. you're able to try this. I worked for Toyota for 10 years and we replaced quite some those. cost is approximately $a hundred.00

The coil is inside the dist cap if it runs ok leave it alone .The rarely go bad

it may have the ignitor built into the distributor and not have a seperate coil

I believe it is generally on the drivers side fender well, or at least my son's pick-up is that way with the 22RE engine.
