It was a shine of things to come (and by that I mean great games). I actually feel kind of bad that the parents of the kids of columbine (the shooters kids) tried to blame and sue ID software for killing all those kids, never the less as games evolve, people become even more stupid. The game was great especially for its time, lots of levels (and you could even make your own!!!), a good engine (that other games built off of), decent graphics, decent want to reply, but where doom really shined was its multilayer capabilities although not online (the Internet wasn't really as big back then) but lan parties went though the night playing the game.

And thus DOOM started a craze, that video games were a way of life, much better than people (because you are free from judgment or persecution) and especially emotional relationships (mainly because a game can't take half your stuff and your kids).

DOOM was great, and so were the 80s and early 90s.

It was the first real breakout hit of the first person shooter genre. Despite coming under heavy controversy from parental groups, it was a fantastic game with that combined easy to learn controls with great gameplay. Storyline was a bit non-existant, but it is still one of the classics.

It is badass. When it came out, it rocked like nothing else, but it is still fun to play even though is old.
