I've had eight babies. The first four with no medication.

You are probably having lots of Braxton-Hicks contractions, right? They will just keep getting closer together and more intense until you realize it is time to go. The real contractions are just a continuation of B/H.

Contractions are just like cramps, exactly like cramps, except they get really, really hard. I have very intense labors, so yours might not be as bad. When I finally had better insurance I got epidurals, it was like a walk in the park.

The most important thing to remember is to COMPLAIN! I know that sounds bad, but I learned that trying to be nice and not be any trouble is the worst thing you can do. They will put you off and put you off for literally hours. Always complain about pain a little more strenuously than you normally would.

You can go back to being nice after the baby is born. But even then, you tell them you want ICE and Codeine right away. After pains can be pretty bad too.

I have one child, he is 29, I remember the birth like it was yesterday. First, sitting on a couch and suddenly all this warm water floats down my trousers, and I go to a neighbour, and it is the waters breaking. This means the baby is now ratteling around with no protective shield. So. You go in the ambulence, and then, get a focal point, pretend you are blowing a candle flame, but not to blow it out. My beginning to end lasted from 10 p.m to 6.a.m when he was born. I thought he was coming down the wrong passage....ie, like bieng constipated for nine months and having a giant s..........it....however, I do not know what contractions are. I know what pushing and the head coming out is, and until that time, which is actually a natural birth, then beg for pethadine. Then they slide out like a ship of a launch pad. Believe me. love me son. only one, cannot understand anyone going through all that again, unless they think it is going to be different, and of course, it will be. Just a different hell.

Don't put you or your baby in stress worrying about them, you will deliver your baby the best way your body can, in some cases contractions have not been more that a twinge. I have 2 children 7 Min's delivery for the first, and 4Min's the second. So don't fret over what you cannot control. Hope all goes well and enjoy the future with your new family.

Don't worry about a thing... the pain is only there during the actual contraction and then you have a bit of a breather. I have two , I'm not saying its totally painless and will probably feel like your back is being bent in two! But its one heck of a ride and you definetly come out smiling... Remember child birth is Gods precious gift to this world and YOU are the bearer! How brilliant is that........

To be honest they can be very painful, you dont always get them in the stomach. I dont I get contractions in the lower back, it is quite painful. I dont know what it feels like for the stomach, I always hope that next time I'll get them in the stomach...

Its different for everyone, some people dont get much of a pain but others get lodes.

Good Luck!

it is VERY painful and gets a lot more so as the labour continues, Thankfully nowadays there is PAIN RELIEF :OD

I had gas and air and i was off my head but it made me really sick.

Once u have your baby, the whole labour experiance dissapears and its hard to remember. It will be over in no time.

Good luck XX

do you want the truth or do you want it sugar coated?? lol in my experience ( i have 3 kids) it varies my first i thought i was gonna die with the pain, needless to say i didnt, it was like period pains but about 1000x worse, needless to say i then found out about the epidural lol, i had that with my second and it was bliss i had no pain what so ever, just a tightening around my belly when i was contracting, with my third he came so quickly they didnt have time to give me one, i had him naturally and he was the heaviest 9lb11ozs, and ive got to say the pain wasnt that bad, you learn to cope with it, and as soon as you have that beautifull baby you will forget all about it , and it will be worth all the pain in the world

Painful. With my first I woke up screaming from the pain. Then with my second they induced me. With my third It started out light cramps and eventually got a little worse every hour or so and then when my water broke, it was terrible. You wont miss your real first contractions. Trust me.

Difficult to explain - a wave of pain and increases as the time goes on. Mine started with backache then waters broke and then the pain started. Good luck - it's worth it!!! Remember your breathing and the gas and air is brilliant......
