Did you try shifting both the First Line Indent and the Hanging Indent or there is an Increase Indent and a Decrease Indent on the toolbar.

Are you attempting to set margins outside the parameters of the actual size of the paper you wish to print on?
Have you tried to set the left margin first, and then the right margin?
Did you check the paper size in Page Layout was the correct size for the paper you have loaded in your printer?
Did you click on OK after setting the margins?

What margins are you trying to set?
Let's assume you intend to print on 8 1/2 x 11
Open a new document
cl File
cl Page Setup
Top .7
Bottom .7
Left .7
Right .7
cl the "paper" tab
be sure paper size is
width 8.5
length 11
If this works, just reset a little if you want.
