All we really want is a beach for ourselves and 11 year old daughter. Dont need nightlife, amusement parks, or races; just a clean, comfortable, affordable hotel on a white sand beach and sunshine. I prefer the Gulf but we would look at east coast too. Who knows a good beach-hotel combo we can enjoy without breaking the bank?

Don't know your price range but personally, there are some great areas on the emerald coast of the pan handle that are made for families who want quiet, community, and relaxing fun. These are not necessarily hotels but you can rent one or two bedroom homes and, frankly, I find it more peaceful.

I would suggest is a Marriott Vacation Club in the Ft. Lauderdale area. There are a couple but my favorite is the Beach Place Towers. It's actually on the beach (you cross a road) and it is housed in a very laid back small shopping center with restaurants but the resort has a great pool away from crowds, beautiful views, and Ft. Lauderdale, I find, is much less hectic than many other FL cities. It also has a great water taxi that will take you around within a block of the resort and there are some very eclectic places to check out that have art galleries etc. Not sure what breaking the bank is but I find this to be reasonable for all you get. If you all stay in the same room it's about $180 / night.

Sorry if that's higher than you were thinking.

Take Care,

Most of the Keys are very nice and do offer affordable hotels and motels. Since my bank is different than your bank I don't know what it would take to break your bank but if you google the Florida keys you can get more of an idea of prices and locations. I live in Florida near KSC and love it here, but unlike you I'm not a beach person, well during the day I'm not, you cant get me off the beach in the evening or at night, I love it. Good Luck and Enjoy KG

I used to love vacationing on Treasure Island (off Clearwater), but I always went in Feb/March, not in the summer. It's very small, quiet, not a lot to do (which is just what I always wanted). Good beach, plus a quaint "fisherman's wharf"-type little area where you can sit down and eat fresh-shucked oysters all night long if you want. Very peaceful. We used to stay at the Holiday Inn on the beach, but I think there are homes you can rent, if you'd prefer to go that route. Do a Google search for "Treasure Island vacation rental."

k um the gulf is really gross and doesn't have clean water, and from what I know of, there is no white sand beach hotel in florida. in the keys there is however i believe in key largo. i live on the east coast in jensen beach. if you have any other questions, you can email me at battonbutterfly@yahoo.com

I LIVE IN WEST CENTRAL FLORIDA - NOT FAR FROM TAMPA.
THIS IS STRICTLY MY OPINION - THE FLORIDA SUMMERS ARE
SO HOT AND HUMID THAT YOU CANNOT BREATHE, EVEN ON THE BEACH. WANT TO ENJOY THE BEACH, COME IN MAY OR OCTOBER...
ALL THE BEACHES ARE CLEAN -

You shouldn't plan your vacation so early, you may catch your wife cheating on you. Then you will still have to go on vacation with her and her new lover and it will be so awkward!
