There are so many great baby carriers out there - there is truly something for everyone. I have personally used a variety of slings including pouches, ring-slings, wraps, mei tais, and the Ergo. And they ALL can be great. Many of these carriers have advantages over the Snugli or the Bjorn. They distribute the weight better so that it is easy and comfortable to carry a heavier baby. And I have read that they can be better for the baby because the carriers I listed above support the baby's bottom, hips, and thighs rather than having the baby sort of dangling by the crotch. Most of the carriers listed above are great for breastfeeding too, especially ring-slings, wraps, and mei tais. It is not as easy to breastfeed in a snugli or bjorn.
A WONDERFUL source of information about baby carriers is www.thebabywearer.com. This site has all kinds of reviews and there is also a forum where you can ask questions and very experienced babywearers can give you advice. I have found that forum very helpful, myself. Some of the carriers I listed have a bit of a learning curve, so it is helpful to see the pictures that other members post and some people even post helpful videos explaining how they use their carriers, such as wraps. There are so many interesting, comfortable, and beautiful baby carriers out there - you should definitely check it out!

I own quite a few different baby carriers--slings, wraps, an ergo, a mei tai....the choices can be overwhelming these days! You might need to try a few different options to see what you and your baby like. I would suggest that you find a local NINO meeting (link below) to see and try out a few different kinds of carriers.
Personally, I loved my Moby wrap for a newborn and then moved to a Hotsling from 5-8 months, and now I use my Ergo and Mei Tai for my 10.5 month old. I still use the one-shouldered slings for short trips, but she is getting a bit heavy and I like the support over two shoulders. Have fun! Baby wearing can get a bit addictive once you get the hang of it.

I like the sling and carrier both. I use them for different reasons though. I use my hotslings most for New Newborn stage as it holds them in the position closest to what they were accustomed to in the womb and they love it. Then I use it when they are older around the house or tuck it in the stroller for those instances they just can't stand being in the stroller anymore. http://www.hotslings.com/
I LOVE LOVE LOVE my ergo carrier. I use this in public most often. This is a great for all day wearing. You only have to adjust it to you once till you need the next position. It was terrific with the infant insert after about 3 weeks. Great to nurse in it holds the baby in just the right pisition and with the suncover fixed over Dc head no one can tell. It is super sturdy and I can keep my baby in it forever without pain. Whats best is it can be used up to 40 pounds. You can wear it on your front, side, or back. And it has a pocket that I stuff my wallet, keys, a burp cloth and a couple breast pads in. http://www.ergobabycarrier.com/carrier.html
FYI:
I found them both on ebay for great prices. If you go that route though for the ergo make sure you are looking at the new generation ergo carrier.

Slings are much better.
More versitile.
You can nurse in a sling.
Can carry a much older/heavier baby in a sling.
Many different positions that can be used with a sling.
Someone else said they didn't like their sling because it seemed too low for them. It was either a bad size or it wasn't adjuste properly if that was the case.

I like slings personally. Snuggli-type carriers seem to be hard on your back. I really like a wrap, such as the moby wrap, because it distributes weight better across your shoulders. I also like asian style baby carriers (like the mei tai) for older babies. They are easy to use and very convenient.

I would reccomend a maya wrap. My daughter at 6 months cried the first time I put her in, and then stopped once I started walking. She fell asleep right away.
They are close to you.
I tried a snugle and we both hated it.
Its your preference .
But I also think that a mobywrap is a knockoff of mayawrap.
