its any type of music recorded on an independent record label. at one point he most pop acts were indie. it is not a style althoguh it sometimes referes to alternative rock forms

Indie means independent and generally means they don't have any songs on the top100 Billboard charts and signed to any major labels. It's also called alternative.

it used to mean "independant record label" but then it turned into a genre that is not well known, independant or whatever. it can usually mean anything. most people now associate it w/ alternative rock. when people usually say indie they meann alternative.
