Cow's milk is not as easily digested by the baby when they're younger. Six months is definitely too young for cow's milk - they should just be starting on solids around then. Projectile vomiting and diarrhea are not uncommon for babies who have been given cow's milk too soon. If your son is allergic to milk, I'm not sure soy milk is the best replacement. Look on the package; I drink rice milk, and it says it's not to be used in place of infant formula. How old is your son? I would ask your pediatrician - around 10 - 12 months is probably okay. You have to give their immune systems time to handle certain things, including the proteins in cow's milk.

My daughter has the same allergy, and soy formula has worked great. I would stay away from goats milk when he gets older, and be careful about the kind of soy milk you buy. Some soy milk does not have the vitamin D that cow's milk has, and this could lead to Rickets. Make sure to check the label.

If baby is under 12 months get a soy based formula. If he is over 12 months check with your doctor. He may want baby to be on soy formula for a while or he may suggest going to soy milk.

If baby has a cow's milk allergy I would be very careful about other animal milks. A great deal of the time, if you react to one you react to the others (goat, sheep, buffalo, etc...).

There is soy-based infant formula available. Also if the allergy is severe he may need some other type of forumla such as nutrigimin (sp?) or a prescription formula. It depends on the severity of the allergy and if there is another allergy as well. I had a friend who had to get prescription formula for her baby who was severely allergic to milk proteins, soy, eggs, and pork (and I think another thing or two but I can't remember off the top of my head). It was very expensive but they were able to get their insurance to cover the cost.

If all formulas fail, you can always try relactation or you can look into human milk from a milk bank.

Goats milk doesnt have all the necessary nutrition that the baby formulas have. If your baby is under 1, go with the Soy formula. That can be purchased at any drugstore or grocery store. Also I would see your baby's pediatrictian just to make sure that is what is actually causing the problem.

I don't know where you are from, but here in San Antonio, Soy and Goat's milk are available at our local grocery store.
Check there first, if not maybe a health food store or check with your pediatrician. Two of my girls were not able to handle regular formula or cow's milk, but did great with Carnation Good Start.
Good luck!

Soy is every where now. If you need baby formula read the labels at the store, there are many with soy instead of milk. Or ask a pharmacist and they will show you which one to buy.

Oh poor baby! I am not sure if you meant soya or soy milk. If you meant soy milk or goat milk, i believe you can find them at most stores. What ever your major grocery store is should have them. If not you can ask your pedi to help you find them. It should not be that hard! Good luck with your baby!

Here is an option you may not have thought of. In my opinion this is the perfect case for breastmilk. You can go about getting it two ways. You can induce lactation now even after the fact, but it is challenging. Here is some info on that: http://pregnancy.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?zi=1/XJ&sdn=pregnancy&zu=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.artofbreastfeeding.com%2Frelact.html
ANd here is a link to a forum i belong to where there are mothers that have relactated and are relactating to offer support should you choose that.http://www.diaperpin.com/forum04/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=30
Or since your child has an allergy, you can get a prescription for breastmilk from a milkbank. Here is some info for that : http://breastfeed.com/resources/articles/breastmilkbanks.htm I really hope this helps.

You should be able to buy soy milk in the milk section of your supermarket. I am not so sure about goat milk. If he is still on formula, you could give him soy formula...almost all brands make it.
