The term upgrade is most often used in computing, generally meaning a replacement of hardware or software with a newer one, in order to bring the system up to date. The word is also often used by audiophiles to describe the replacement of a product with a better quality product with the aim of bringing enhancements to sound quality.
Updating=In computing, a patch is a small piece of software designed to update or fix problems with a computer program. This includes fixing bugs, replacing graphics and improving the usability or performance. Though meant to fix problems, poorly designed patches can sometimes introduce new problems (aka. software regressions).
Patch management is the process of using a strategy and plan of what patches should be applied to which systems at a specified time.
